Mark Gonzales mini site (part 2)

Legendary pro-skateboarder Mark Gonzales collaborated with adidas to launch a pair of signature shoes and adidas wanted to let the world know about it – in stages. As such, we initially designed a holding page using close-ups of some of the photography they supplied, announcing “he’s coming” without being specific about who was coming or why.

Using that look as our basis, we then developed a content-rich site that told you anything you might ever want to know about Gonzales and his achievements – and then some. We used a non-linear style of navigation: a revolving information wheel with spikes sticking out of it relating to text, photographs or illustrations.

The final part of the Mark Gonzales mini-site (shown below) featured a discussion between the designer of the shoe and Gonz himself. We took our lead from our previous work on the project and featured the key points from the discussion in a rather neat diagram. The shoe itself was photographed in 360 degrees so users could virtually rotate it. However, it was at about this time that we realized we were spending far too much time trying to write code and not enough time designing or being creative. Learning code was initially both challenging and interesting, but after a while it ended up simply becoming tedious. From this point on we made a decision to farm out most of our coding to freelancers.
